Petrospec’s booth was hopping at this year’s SPE Thermal Well Integrity and Production Symposium that ran Dec. 2-5 at the beautiful Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Gerry Chalifoux (president and CEO), Scott Penny (general manager), and Mark Padberg (senior staff technologist) made the trip out to Banff this year.
Well-attended as usual, it was a great chance to connect with customers and suppliers, and to learn more about industry challenges. Leon Waldner (Drilling and Completions at CNOOC International) gave a presentation on the world’s first coiled tubing deployment system for ESP’s, Petrospec’s Power-Tube™. They’re currently trialing 2 systems at CNOOC, which have been operating for 5 months now.
“Leon knocked it out of the park,” shares Padberg. He’s been working on Power-Tube™ development for close to 10 years. “We’ve had a lot of interest in the product since the conference, so we’re excited to build momentum with Power-Tube™ in 2025.”
Power-Tube™ is designed for use in areas where killing the well for pump change is difficult, or unwanted. “Power-Tube™ makes it possible for operators to rapidly change a pump, resulting in lower service costs, reduced downtime of the well, and lower CO2 emissions during well servicing,” shares Padberg.
Petrospec also gave a demo of their cloud-based visualizer, PetroViz, which is garnering excellent reviews from customers. The team continues to make improvements to the software with added features and updates, all based on valuable customer feedback.
The team looks forward to a busy 2025, and the chance to connect at next year’s symposium.
